Below is Christer's review of debut CD "Walkin' on Thrills" BUZZ-8007 (1997): Great stuff: 11 originals, three covers: Outta Control: Jeremy Spencer-era Fleetwood Mac with powerful slide guitar Walkin' On Thrills: hot reverby rock'n'roll with neatly tinkling piano Feelin' Blue: burbling, uptempo tremolo + reverb I Have To Pay: menacing 12-bar with lots of harp Can't Live Without U: aggressive T-Birds blues Slowdown: more glorious tremolo guitar! Jimmy Vaughan would love this LoveBirds: soulful romance decorated with glistening guitar licks |
Frankie's: fast instrumental jumpin' at ya' complete with swooshing Hammond Beggin' For My Baby: slow 12-bar with imploring harp. Baby should give in! Lady Luck: T for Tough Texans Goin' Upside Your Head: Big Boss Bird How Long: powerful wailin' 11-bar blues (yes! eleven!) Mean Ol' Woman: doin' the 12-bar BlueBird: tour de force slow blues making great use of this album's two-guitars-plus-Hammond line-up. (Guitarist Petter Persson - the gentleman on Goldtop Les Paul - has left the band's lineup since then - and the drummer has been replaced, too.) I wouldn't have minded another helping of this! |
Yes: I do love this album. The feel is extremely live and the bare-knuckles-basics are fleshed out with this huge sound of pulsating reverbs/tremolos/Hammonds which always knocks me out. Plus a special gold star for the acoustic piano outings! I didn't know Skövde was this close to Texas! Dangerously addictive and recommended for l-o-o-o-o-ng and repeated use says Christer |
